Horsemanship Lessons
|

Sol's Legacy is not a typical horse riding program. Our focus is on building a relationship between our students and horses through Biblically based horsemanship lessons for children ages 8 to 14 years. Through this relationship, children learn communication skills, gain an awareness and control of their body to better communicate with the horse, and learn to have a plan to be a leader for the horse. In this process, students gain confidence in their abilities! Our goal is that each student learn how they are a precious, loved child of God. Year after year, we continue to be amazed and blessed at what God does through our horses.
Horsemanship starts on the ground. Therefore many skills such as grooming, tacking, leading, free-longing, mounting, and dismounting need to be taught before riding.
Lessons are private, not group, and meet once a week for five weeks. Lessons will last one hour,
unless the student requires a shorter time period. In addition to the instructor, there may be up to three volunteers per student.
Session fees are $225 for the Horsemanship Program. Scholarships are available on a per session basis for students needing assistance.
Please contact Tonya Wells for more information on our scholarship program.

God does amazing things when we choose to be obedient. From the beginning, Sol's founder, Tonya Wells, has been passionate to help children become confident readers. Reading is the foundation to everything a child will do. If we can increase a passion for reading, we are succeeding!
In 2018, thanks to a grant from the Henry County Board, Sol's Legacy piloted a reading program to specifically target children who are struggling with reading in the classroom. At the time we announced our start date, Tonya connected with Dr. Michele Pickel who created Horse Powered Reading.
It was as if God opened a door for us to start this program.
Horse Powered Reading was developed in 2012, by Dr. Michele Pickel. It combines activities utilizing a horse and the use of research-based reading strategies that engage the mind, body, and emotions in learning. Dr. Pickel was a great source of knowledge and help by sharing activities and strategies to enhance our program. Tonya completed Dr. Pickel's Intro to Experiential and Horse Powered Reading Instruction online class.
Sessions are private and will last 45 minutes for 5 consecutive weeks. Sessions fees are $175. Scholarships are available on a per session basis for students needing financial assistance. Please contact Tonya Wells for more information on our reading program or scholarships.

A Play Date is an opportunity for a child to spend one 90 minute session with a horse, an instructor and at least one volunteer. (The child will not be riding for the full 90 minutes.) The experience starts with working with the horse on the ground and builds up to riding. Many skills will be taught such as communicating with the horse, grooming, tacking, leading. free-lunging, along with riding.
Cost for a Play Date is $100. Please contact Tonya Wells for more information about our Play Dates.

Hope & Horses is a new offering for 2026. We are excited to share our horses with adults this year!
Hope & Horses will be offered two days this year and does NOT include riding. Any adult, age 50 or older, can sign up to spend 1 hour bonding with our beautiful horses one-on-one with guidance from our instructor and volunteers. This will be an enjoyable and peaceful opportunity to meet the horses, discuss horse safety, spend time grooming and building a trusting relationship with the horse and pray together.

We love to have groups visit our farm! We have opened the doors to host groups for educational and social events such as boy/girl scouts, FFA and homeschool groups, a paint night, and even dinner parties for local civic organizations.
We can provide educational visits to learn about horses and their care. We have had visits to build families, others to build leadership and communication skills as well as a vareity of social events.
